29th of June 2010 - Freestyle (thanks Michael for the write-up)

We met in June on a lovely summers evening. Some of us even turned up in shorts (and I think you can guess who). There was a lot of beer on the table and we had to be dedicated to get through them all which may explain what follows.

I seem to remember that the quality of the beer was a bit lower than it has been recently, although there were no "bad" beers. I think. Because honestly I can't quite remember what we had apart from a lot.

I brought three beers along. The first was a bottle conditioned bitter made from the 1953 recipe for Ben Truman. This was OK although not a great beer. I also brought a bottle conditioned pale hoppy bitter which seemed past it's best and was not as good as the cask conditioned/dry hopped version which some of us sampled at house in May. Finally I brought a double brown stout which I had bottled from a Cornie keg the night before. This was oxidised and unpleasant which was a pretty good illustration of the problems of bottled in this way. A disappointment to me because this is my favourite beer I have made this year.

Finally, John brought a couple of beers which included his Black IPA. This was the beer of the evening even for those of us who are not partial to the dreaded US "C" hops. A very good beer.
